As in previous years, over a million people are expected to attend Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Cologne next weekend. This makes Cologne CSD one of the largest events for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community in Europe.
Cologne Pride began on July 6, but the highlight of this year’s celebrations is the official CSD parade on this Sunday, July 21, 2024. Around 250 groups with around 60,000 participants will take part. As every year, they will march through Cologne city center and demonstrate for their rights and freedom while having a huge party.
The motto is: “For human rights. Many.”
Catholic youth associations will also be taking part in this year’s Christopher Street Day Cologne, with clear demands on their church. Conservative circles, on the other hand, are calling for a clear rejection of the actions and are demanding a decisive word from Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki. We hope that something will happen…
Remembering the Stonewall uprisings
The CSD commemorates the events of 1969 in New York: Police stormed the “Stonewall Inn” bar on Christopher Street and triggered a multi-day uprising by gays, lesbians and transsexuals. Since then, parades and demonstrations have been held every year around the world to commemorate this, sometimes under difficult circumstances.
We hope all of our friends and guests who take part have fun. Enjoy your time…
